Where?

We start in London and finish in Ulaanbaatar all going to plan … and why wouldn’t it?

Okay, macho bravado over, we did check out the map and had a really neat plan until someone pointed out that we were actually headed right through the centre of Chechnya which is, apparently, not the best place to head right through - must be the time of year or, perhaps it’s the mosquitoes!?

So, anyway, we think we’re going to head for Prague then drop down through Romania, round the North coast of the Black Sea in the Ukraine, straight through Russia to Kazakhstan, (aaaaaye, high five), across the gargantuan Kazak desert, the very terrain that Martha (the crap-heap) was built for and has spent her whole life (all 49 years) dreaming about, out of Kazakhstan (aaaaaye, I like you, do you like me?), back into Russia, into the Altai Mountains, out of the Altai Mountains, into Mongolia at the first possibly opportunity, and onto the signpostless dirt tracks for the last 1000 mile homestraight into Ulaanbaatar. Of course, if we take a wrong turn at any point we’ll keep going and find a new route, (firstly, because we’re both hardcore blokes from the North East and asking directions just isn’t acceptable, and secondly, because we just won't have any way of knowing that we’ve actually taken a wrong turn in the first place).

We are now looking at the possibility of going through Iran (subject to visas) which will take us round the South of the Black Sea and through some of the most amazing terrain on Earth! We'll let you know how the visas go and confirm a route before too long!
