What?

10,000 miles, 3 deserts, 5 mountian ranges, some dirt tracks (about 3000 miles of dirt tracks on our chosen route), 35 countries and some of the world's most inhospitable terrain and weather are all that stands between us and Ulaanbaatar, (the capital of Mongolia). It does sound easy put like that doesn’t it!

We've now got our trusty stead - a 1959 Morris Minor which we picked up off Ebay for a mere packet of peanuts.

Apparently we have to choose a route but don’t really see the point. I mean, how hard can it be? You head East and keep going. Once you get Siberia on your left hand side, you take the second right down another dirt track and go straight on, about 800 miles, and Ulambataar is on your right. Simple! I dare say it’s sign-posted, at least once you get past Prague anyway!!

To put it more in perspective, 10,000 miles is like driving from where I live in Darlington to London 50 times, non-stop, without using the M1, or any roads for that matter. We’ll be driving on dirt tracks for a lot of the journey – that should be fun – and apparently Welcome Break, (or any equally extortionate generic motorway service station), hasn’t managed to stretch its greedy money-grabbing (allegedly) corporate machine as far as Mongolia yet. Best load up on supplies then!
