I'm sure anyone that knows me well enough will know what route I have taken. In the words of someone close to me I say, "I never learned nothing by playing it safe"... so I'm taking the Western route! And we're nearly there now. We arrived here about an hour after they closed the border for the night - (they only stay open till 5pm over-here-time... which is 11am over-there-time) - so there's no chance of getting into Mongolia tonight. We've set up camp with Holly, and our new Spannish friends - (guess what !?! - one of them is a mechanic, perhaps my luck is changing) - and we'll have to just twiddle our thumbs until they open again at 9am... (3am UK time).
It was a bit of a ropey ride getting here though. Martha is running very well but we've had to come through countless mountain passes to get here and trying to climb 3000 ft (the height of Snowdon) in Martha is a bit of an achievement. We've managed though, we've managed. Martha's still guzzling fuel like it's going out of fashion. We stopped at the local corner shop today and the sales-lady was pretty stunned to see us load the counter with 30 x 1l bottles of engine oil. I don't think she knew what to make of us.
We're all pretty excited about getting into Mongolia tomorrow but we've heard internet/mobile signal isn't the country's strong point (!!) so apologies in advance if the updates aren't here for you... don't worry, we'll be plugging on towards Ulaan Bataar.
I can't believe we'll be in Mongolia tomorrow... go on, admit it, how many of you didn't dream we'd get this far?
(Remember, it's all for charity so if you haven't already made a donation, please visit the Charities page and give Martha a really big "Well done" for getting even this far!!)
