Today has been a bit of a surreal one. We arrived in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, at around lunchtime, banging and clattering all the way in because of Martha's slight steering issues. Randomly we stopped outside a shop where the owner spoke really good English and he was able to help us find a garage just down the road... the biggest garage in Kazakhstan.
So, the owner of said garage is the Kazakh champion for motorcross and he's got his own racing track in the back yard!! And he let me have a go on his bugggggggggggies!! Wooooohooooooo. Awesome fun. We had a few laps of the track and then he came on for a proper race. AND I WON.
So, basically, as a bit of a break from driving, I spent the afternoon driving.
Martha and Holly are now both in the tender care of the garage and they're trying to get them fixed up for the next stage of the rally. Martha could use some new brakes at the very least, and Holly is having work done to sort her suspension. We're booked into a hotel for tonight - it's very nice, (I have two double beds all to myself!!) - and was only the equivalent of £20 for the night. We'll head back to the garage in the morning and hopefully push onwards to the Russian border.
